Festive Fimo

What a productive time I had at Craft Club on Monday morning. We were shown how to make heart shaped pendants, perfect for a Christmas night out in your favourite LBD ( little black dress ). They were quick to make so I took the opportunity to make a few in different colours and shapes, plus two for my girls and a couple of star decorations for the Christmas tree. Only one problem now ... I can't decide whether to keep them for myself or give them as presents to my family!

Calligraphy

cal creativeToday I went to the Christmas market in my local village and there were some lovely crafts on display.

Amongst other things, I bought this fabulous handmade Christmas card all done in calligraphy.

I took the lady's business card and will certainly be following her blog.

Spiral Papercraft

I've seen lots of simple spiral papercraft recently in magazines, on blogs and facebook shares. One I particularly liked was a spiral paper bauble. Starting with a square of paper, then folding it into two triangles and making some paper cuts, followed by some alternate folding and sticking, I produced these:

By varying the size of the paper square you can change the overall dimensions and it looks great in different colours too!

If you make several of the same size then join the ends together they make a very effective snowflake.

E31 Christmas

I agreed to do the craft table again at the English 31 Christmas party, so I started playing around with some ideas for simple tree decorations that the children could make. I bought some plain and sparkly pipe cleaners and some pearlised beads and made some candy cane hearts and icicles:

I think I'll get my mini-makers to have a go at making some snowflakes, Christmas trees and angels too!

TWIG Craft Cafe - December 2013

This month the Craft Cafe 'Makers Morning' was all about Christmas ...

although the Makers Morning is not a themed workshop we decided to offer members the craft supplies to make Christmas cards, tags and gifts.

Here's my 3D origami Christmas tree card, isn't it pretty!

Christmas Stars

I had a lovely day yesterday, with friends, learning how to weave with willow to create a Christmas star. We cut 40cm sticks and tied them together with raffia to form the star shape. Then using thinner, more pliable willow branches started to weave ...

After a hearty lunch we went for a walk in the woods to look for other natural materials to use. I am pleased with the results and will proudly hang my handmade stars up at home this Christmas!
